What is a Newstart Benefit?
The Centrelink Newstart allowance provides support payments while you are unemployed and looking for work. From March 2020 the Newstart Allowance will be replaced by the JobSeeker Payment. If you are currently on Newstart you will be automatically transferred across to JobSeeker payments at this time.
You may be eligible for Newstart Allowance if:
- You are at least 22 but under Age Pension age
- Looking for paid work
- Under the income and asset test limits
- Prepared to meet mutual obligation requirements
